Placemaking and Intangible Cultural Heritage

Communities across Saskatchewan are unique with their own interesting heritage and culture.

David and his team have been researching and visiting communities across Saskatchewan.  They realize the question is not "do we have heritage?" but rather "what is our heritage and how do we keep it alive?"

David’s presentation will discuss and compare different ways of defining "heritage" to arm participants with different ways to understand, codify and describe what it is about their communities that they value. It will discuss tangible cultural heritage, intangible cultural heritage and intangible values, including the differences and similarities between these, and what they all could look like in your community.

Amber’s presentation will focus on placemaking and will incorporate some of the topics discussed in David’s presentation. Placemaking is a people-centred approach to planning, designing, and managing public spaces to improve their quality and create environments that promote health, happiness, and community.  Effective placemaking enhances social connection, boosts local economies, improves health and well-being, strengthens community identity and increases accessibility, all the while considering sustainability.

Consider how your communities are already practising some or many of these elements and learn about more. Stay for an engaging conversation.
