Volunteer Leduc, a Case Study that exemplifies how Volunteers Impact on the Community for the community
Mar 3, 2026
Volunteer Leduc, a subsidiary of the City of Leduc, Alberta, exists to support the voluntary sector by providing volunteer management workshops designed to recognize, support, and enhance volunteerism and is part of the City’s five-year strategic plan to structure and reinvigorate volunteerism in their community
Utilising Volunteer Leduc as a case study, this webinar will elaborate on the various programs and services they have implemented through the Volunteer Leduc Strategy and showcase ideas and tools that can be implemented in your community. Volunteerism is a crucial part of our social fabric; it’s about helping others, supporting the community, connecting people and shaping us as a society. From community programs to large events, volunteers play a significant role in the success and operations of many services and offerings. This session will focus on the key principles of Telling our story, creating the connection, building the capacity and activate, and empowering volunteers. Specifically, we will highlight the Newcomers Mixer program, corporate volunteering within the community and VolunteerFest, a recognition event to celebrate and gather volunteers and organizations from the entire community.
Elana Hansen is a passionate advocate for volunteerism and community building. As the Community Development Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Leduc, she leads Volunteer Leduc—a program dedicated to supporting local organizations, recruiting volunteers, and fostering meaningful community connections. With a background in working with both youth and seniors, Elana brings a deep understanding of how intergenerational engagement strengthens the social fabric.
Elana's community spirit runs deep. She founded the L.A. Dance Academy in 1996 to give youth a creative outlet and continued to give back through her volunteer roles with the Maclab Centre for the Performing Arts Society, the Leduc Arts Foundry, and the Leduc Art Walk. She and her family have also contributed to fundraising efforts for STARS Air Ambulance.
In this session, Elana will showcase Volunteer Leduc as a case study to demonstrate the powerful impact of volunteerism. Participants will learn about key programs like the Newcomers Mixer, corporate volunteer partnerships, and VolunteerFest, and explore tools to foster volunteer engagement in their own communities. With her blend of practical experience and heartfelt dedication, Elana offers valuable insights into building stronger, more connected, and sustainable communities through volunteerism.
