Cheer Story: Rocanville Lucky Lottery: A Win for Everyone

The Rocanville Lucky Lottery is a powerful example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose. The dedication of passionate volunteers and the generosity of local supporters, the Lucky Lottery has become an impactful, sustainable way to give back to Rocanville. It creates lasting benefits for facilities, recreation programs, and youth by pooling efforts instead of competing for support. Through teamwork, community pride, and volunteer leadership, the Lucky Lottery continues to turn local support into meaningful, long-term impact for everyone who calls Rocanville home.

Back in 1996, the Community of Rocanville came together when it became clear that the existing rink could no longer meet the needs of our growing community. A group of hardworking, dedicated volunteers stepped forward to form a fundraising group, and from them the idea of the Rocanville Lucky Lottery was born.

For several years, the Lucky Lottery was run entirely by volunteers, with every dollar raised dedicated to bringing a new rink to Rocanville. Through commitment, teamwork, and unwavering community support, that dream was achieved. Once the new rink was built and serving our community, the Lucky Lottery quietly retired — its mission complete.

As time passed, another beloved community space began to show its age: our swimming pool. Once again, Rocanville was faced with the challenge of raising significant funds to preserve an important recreational facility. Looking back on the success of the rink project, we were reminded of the powerful role the Lucky Lottery had played. And so, with renewed energy and purpose, the Lucky Lottery was resurrected.

This time, the vision expanded. While the swimming pool would receive the lion’s share of the funds raised, the Lucky Lottery would also support all recreational groups in Rocanville, allowing them to apply for funding to help their programs grow and thrive. A new group of eager and passionate volunteers formed the Lucky Lottery Committee, meeting regularly to promote the lottery and ensure its success.

Even with such a dedicated committee, the Lucky Lottery would not be possible without the incredible support of Rocanville and our surrounding communities. Over the past four years, that support has made a tremendous impact. The Rocanville Lucky Lottery has provided funding to our indoor swimming pool, skating rink, and recreation centre, as well as many of our recreation groups — including the dance club, swim team, and soccer club. Funds have supported everything from building renovations and new equipment to golf lessons and programming opportunities.

To date, the Lucky Lottery has raised over $200,000 to give back to our community. This support has helped ease the financial pressure on small boards and committees who work tirelessly to keep their groups running strong. In small communities, fundraising can be challenging when many groups are working toward the same goal. Instead of competing with one another, the Lucky Lottery allows us to work together, raising funds that benefit everyone.

The Lucky Lottery Committee remains committed to ensuring the lottery continues to succeed.
