Town Tour: Balgonie

Balgonie is named after Balgonie Castle in Scotland and like all the communities located in the White Butte area has seen substantial growth over the last two decades. Grenall High is a regional school that serves all the schools in the area and is a hub of activity. Balgonie also boosts the only outdoor swimming pool amongst the communities along with some other great facilities. Cool historical fact is that Balgonie was home to William Wallace Gibson who designed and made the first Canadian models of an airplane which he tested off the roof of his store which was located in the Hyde Building. Watch the National Film Board of Canada’s short film, ‘The Balgonie Birdman’ to learn more.
