In recent years, we have seen the trickle-down of community decision-makers realizing the economic impact of lifestyle. From walking paths to murals, to street festivals, to the overall inclusion of inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA) in community programming, we see our (southeast) communities changing for the better, with most communities putting a focus on economic development that includes art in the conversation.
The arts serve as a significant economic engine by directly contributing to the economy through jobs and industry activity, and indirectly by attracting visitors, businesses, and residents, fostering community pride, and increasing property values. This approach generates tangible economic benefits, including increased tourism, higher property values, and a more competitive business environment – see arts matter! And no one knows that better than the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance (SAA). Em Ironstar, SAA’s Executive Director, joins us to discuss tools and new ways to show how the arts are benefiting our communities.
